Finally last night my book arrived in the mail from home. After spending the past few days reading folklore stories online through my laptop screen, it was such a nice change to be able to hold a physical copy of this book in my hands. I pored through the stories eagerly, pausing on each of the beautiful illustrations.They are hand pained in a traditional Japanese style using block colours, and provide so much inspiration for the direction I might take my artwork in. The book is heavy and each of the pages thick and glossy, and reminds me vividly of my childhood.
The versions of the stories in the book vary greatly from some of the versions I found online. In some cases, the titles had changed and I only recognised the tale when I was partway through reading it, and in other cases whole settings or characters were changed.
