Sher Khan from The Jungle Book

Drawing by Milt Kahl, source: 2dtraditionalanimation.tumblr.com/post

The tiger both looks realistic and cartoonish in equal measures; his proportions look believable but his face and human qualities, like the frown and exaggerated lower jaw. Kahl's work is a good example of how to draw an animal character while instilling it with your own style and aesthetic, and to fit a certain kind of purpose.
